Schedule for the Dementia Awareness Day 'Tour dementia': Details of events planned for family members and victims' support
On September 17, 2025, Bergisch Gladbach will host an action day focused on "Dementia". This event, co-hosted by the Aging Affairs Office of the City of Bergisch Gladbach and the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia in the Bergisches Land, promises a varied program that aims to educate, engage, and support the community.
The day will commence with a media exhibition on the topic of dementia, which will be held at the City Library from September 15-27. From 2:30 PM, "The Radiance of Age" - Portrait photos from the encounter centres of Caritas RheinBerg - will be displayed on the Market Square.
At the DRK Refrather Treff, two lectures are scheduled. At 10:00 AM, Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen will give a talk titled "Dement - what now?". At 12:00 PM, Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the City of Bergisch Gladbach will present a lecture on "Legal representation options in dementia - legal guardianship is good, power of attorney is better".
Interactive activities and information booths will also be available on the Market Square from 2:30 PM. Participating organisations include the Contact office for self-help care, City Library, Guardianship office, Aging Affairs Office, Care counseling Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, ADFC Rhein-Berg, and Radwerk (Caritas).
The action day will coincide with World Alzheimer's Day and will include a bicycle tour, the "Tour Demenz". The bicycle group will arrive at the Market Square around 3:25 PM and be welcomed by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives. After a break, the group will continue on their way.
In the evening, a lecture titled "Driving with dementia - assistance for relatives and interested parties" will be given by Nicole Sutschet, Police Sergeant and Traffic Safety Advisor of the Accident Prevention, at the Volkshochschule Bergisch Gladbach from 5:30-7:00 PM. A guided tour "With all senses" of the Villa Zanders exhibition "Eckart Hahn: Papiertiger" will be given by curator Maike Sturm at 4:00 PM, with a dance offer "In rhythm of memory" following. Registration for this event is required by September 15, 2025.
