Scheduled Debut, Episode Breakdown, and All the Latest Information About Parenthood

Parenthood, a captivating five-part wildlife documentary, is set to air on BBC One in the UK from Sunday, 3 August at 7.20 pm. Narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough, this series takes viewers on a global journey to witness the incredible ways animals safeguard and feed their young in ever-changing environments.

The series was filmed in 23 countries on six continents over three years, providing a breathtaking exploration of diverse habitats from oceans to jungles. In the first episode, we are introduced to a gorilla in Gabon teaching her baby about forest life, a lion in Botswana hunting dangerous Cape Buffalo, a hippo protecting her calf from lions, and a burrowing owl couple raising their chicks in the USA.

As we progress through the episodes, we witness the resilience of animals in the face of adversity. For instance, in Episode Five, tapirs in the Amazon are forced to relocate due to forest fires, while a crab in Jamaica uses the forest's resources to build a nursery pool. In Kenya, an elephant family awaits the arrival of rain during a drought, and in Argentina, a guanaco mother faces difficulties while traveling to winter feeding grounds.

Each episode also showcases heartwarming stories of cooperation and teamwork. In Bhutan, rufous-necked hornbill parents prove to be a well-honed team, and in India, langur monkeys practice babysitting. However, tragedy also strikes in some episodes, such as the social weaver bird's nest in South Africa and the tri-tri goby fish's child-rearing plans being upset by a storm in Dominica.

The series also highlights the challenges animals face due to human encroachment. In Namibia, a Namaqua sandgrouse father encounters danger as he collects water, and white-headed langurs in China find their limestone habitats encroached upon by farmland.

The Parenthood series, with its stunning cinematography and insightful narration, promises to be an enlightening and emotional journey through the world of animal parenting. The episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer from the same date as the airing, but the US release date has not been announced yet. The series premiered in the US on March 2, 2010. Don't miss this opportunity to witness the incredible stories of animal parenthood across the globe.
