School opening in Essen's northern area: Registration for students begins in the fall season
A New Elementary School Coming to Essen's North District
Exciting news for the city of Essen! Registrations for a new three-winged elementary school are now open, set to start in the 2026/27 school year. This innovative school will be located on the site of the former Tiegelschule, which was closed in 2011 and later demolished.
The new Tiegelschule will initially enroll 81 children, starting with its first grade. The school is being developed in close cooperation between the city, the school administration, and the University of Duisburg-Essen.
One of the key features of the new school is its conceptual orientation of a barrier-free, cross-grade, and inclusive learning environment. To support this, the school will have learning clusters - large rooms that can be opened up to create a larger area when needed.
