Second half surge propels William Smith soccer team past Salisbury, clinching a three-goal victory
William Smith's women's soccer team continued their strong start to the season with a 3-0 road victory over Salisbury in non-conference play. The match, scheduled for noon, saw Casey Holstein score the first goal for William Smith in the 61st minute, assisted by Analise Pilarski.
Less than a minute after Holstein's goal, Ruth Hotaling added her third goal of the season, extending the lead for William Smith. Junior goalkeeper Antonia Goerke was in top form, recording her third consecutive shutout and making three key saves during the game, including a diving stop late in the first half.
The defensive effort was impressive, as William Smith led Salisbury 6-3 in corner kicks and outshot them 20-7 overall. The second half saw William Smith dominate, with a 12-3 advantage in shots. Julia Bragg scored the third and final goal for William Smith in the 89th minute, notching her fourth of the season.
The win improves William Smith's season record to 3-0-1. The team will face nationally ranked Messiah on September 13 in their next fixture.
