Secures Release: President Trump Relinquishes Federal Security Escort for Ex-VP Kamala Harris
Former Vice President Kamala Harris is facing a security concern after US President Donald Trump revoked her Secret Service protection. The move has been met with criticism from California Governor Gavin Newsom's spokesperson Bob Salladay and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who believe it puts Harris in danger.
Salladay and Bass described Trump's decision as another act of political retaliation. Bass expressed her outrage at the move, stating that it is yet another example of Trump's disregard for the safety of public officials. Salladay also stated that the safety of public officials should not be subject to political impulses.
Both Salladay and Bass have remained silent on Trump's recent calls for federal charges against billionaire George Soros or his demands for the death penalty for all murder cases in Washington. They have also not commented on Harris' upcoming promotional tour for her book, "107 Days," which tells the story of her short campaign for the US presidency.
Harris announced that she would not run for governor of California next year, ending any speculation about her political future in the state. In March, Trump ended the security that covered Hunter and Ashley, the children of his predecessor Joe Biden. However, Biden extended Harris' security for another year in an undisclosed directive.
It is important to note that the automatic six months of protection for former vice presidents ends after six months from leaving office. Unlike ex-presidents, former vice presidents do not receive federal government protection for life. There is no publicly available information indicating that any person revoked Donald Trump's security clearance through an undisclosed directive in August 2021. The revocation is effective from the start of September.
Bass looks forward to working with the governor to ensure Kamala Harris' safety in Los Angeles. She has not mentioned any connection between the Kamala Harris security issue and the ongoing lawsuit by Fed Governor Lisa Cook against Trump. Trump has previously removed federal security details from some of his former officials, including John Bolton and Mike Pompeo.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Harris will address this security concern and whether any additional measures will be taken to ensure her safety.
