Securing Your Oktoberfest Reservation: Tips to Keep Your Spot

In a bid to maintain the integrity and affordability of the Oktoberfest experience for visitors, the city of Munich and Oktoberfest tent owners have implemented a series of measures in 2023. These measures aim to counteract the opaque black market practice that has been harming the festival's reputation and increasing visitor costs.

One of the key initiatives is the introduction of the official online portal, oktoberfest-booking.com, which was launched in 2023. This platform is used by 21 gastronomic medium and large-scale enterprises and facilitates a simple and transparent sales process for Oktoberfest table reservations.

Unused reservations can be offered and purchased at the original price on this portal, counteracting the black market practice. A secure transaction protects both the seller and the buyer, ensuring a fair and safe exchange. Each remaining tent owner has created their own solution to ensure a secure and fair return of unused reservations.

Special web crawlers will be used to identify black market providers of Oktoberfest table reservations. If the name of the person who made the reservation does not match the guest, the reservation will be voided because it is not transferable. This measure aims to prevent the risk of one not being granted access to the beer tent with a reservation booked in someone else's name.

In addition to these measures, a network of their own spot checks will be set up for reservations to ensure authenticity. Oktoberfest tent owners are also planning to engage special law firms to search the internet for illegal table reservation offers. Visitors are informed when new contingents of reservations are released.

Oktoberfest chief Christian Scharpf has appealed to visitors not to purchase tables through suspicious online portals. He emphasised the importance of using the official platform to ensure a legitimate and enjoyable Oktoberfest experience.

Price gouging in the trade of Oktoberfest table reservations has been a significant issue, and these measures are a step towards addressing it. By promoting transparency, security, and authenticity, the city of Munich and Oktoberfest tent owners are working to preserve the tradition and affordability of the world-famous festival.
