Security Officer Swipes 261 IPL 2025 Team Jerseys From BCCI Headquarters, Apprehended by Authorities

A 40-year-old security guard named Farooque Aslam Khan, working at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, has been arrested for stealing 261 IPL 2025 jerseys, worth approximately Rs 6.52 lakh [1][2]. The theft was discovered during a recent stock audit [3].

According to reports, Khan removed a whole carton of jerseys from the secured storage area at the BCCI office [2]. It appears that the motivation behind the theft was linked to gambling debts, as the incident has been described as "Gambling Gone Wrong" [1].

Khan contacted a Haryana-based online jersey dealer through social media and couriered the stolen jerseys to the dealer [3]. The dealer has admitted to purchasing the jerseys, claiming he was unaware they were stolen [3]. However, the police are investigating whether the dealer had any prior knowledge about the stolen nature of the goods.

The financial transaction between Khan and the dealer is under scrutiny, as Khan has not disclosed how much he earned from the sale [3]. In addition, police are now tracking Khan's bank records and betting history as part of the investigation.

So far, only 50 of the stolen jerseys have been recovered [1]. The police are working to recover the remaining jerseys and determine if anyone else was involved in the theft. The intended use of the stolen jerseys remains unclear, whether they were meant for fans, teams, or promotional purposes.

The BCCI filed a formal police complaint at the Marine Drive police station on July 17 [3]. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
