Severe Collision on A59 Near Duisburg - One Critically, Three Lightly Hurt - Comprehensive Shutdown (of the motorway)
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, a multi-vehicle accident occurred on the A59 towards Dinslaken, near the Duissern district. Traffic was redirected via the parallel lane during the investigation, as the main lane was completely blocked.
The accident involved three vehicles: an Audi A6 driven by a 53-year-old man from Duisburg, a Citroen Jumpy driven by a 59-year-old man from Dortmund, and a VW Transporter driven by a 69-year-old man from Duisburg.
The 53-year-old man and his two female passengers were taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The three occupants of the VW Transporter, including a 69-year-old man and the two female passengers aged 68 and 71, were slightly injured. Fortunately, the man from Dortmund, who was driving the Citroen Jumpy, was unharmed.
Initial reports suggest that the man from Duisburg may have lost control of his vehicle due to a medical emergency. However, a subsequent incident on September 1, 2025, involved a 19-year-old driver from Duisburg, who allegedly consumed nitrous oxide before losing control of his car and being seriously injured in a separate accident.
The vehicles involved in the August 28 accident were so badly damaged that they had to be towed away. The man from Duisburg continued to drive after the initial accident and collided with the VW Transporter.
Authorities are still investigating the accidents and have not released further details at this time. We extend our sympathies to those affected and hope for a swift recovery for all those injured.
