Severe collision on the A2 highway between Lehrte and Hämelerwald at FW Lehrte
In the small town of Lehrte, Germany, a serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday evening on the A2 highway, heading towards Berlin. The incident involved a VW Beetle that veered off the road approximately 700 meters before the Hämelerwald exit.
The collision with the guardrail was severe enough to tear the engine block from the vehicle and set it on fire. Fortunately, the rescue service was promptly on the scene, with 23 firefighters and 4 vehicles from the local fire department in Lehrte present.
The driver of the vehicle sustained severe injuries and was treated initially by the rescue service. To carefully extract the injured person from the vehicle through the trunk, the fire department used a tunnel rescue.
Before the arrival of the rescue services, the fire department had already ensured fire protection at the scene and performed battery management on the damaged vehicle. The burning engine block was put out using a powder extinguisher by the first responders.
The police were also present at the incident, and they have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. A rescue helicopter landed at the scene due to the severity of the injuries, but no further details about the current status of the driver were provided.
The highway in the direction of Berlin was completely closed as a result of the accident, although no new information about the amount of material damage or the current status of the highway was provided in this paragraph.
