Accident on A3 Causes Seven-Hour Closure and Serious Injuries
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 13:48, a severe accident occurred on the A3 heading towards Cologne. The incident involved a 3.5-ton truck and a stationary 40-ton articulated truck, causing a seven-hour closure from the Emmerich-Ost exit.
The driver of the 3.5-ton truck, a 43-year-old man from Monheim, collided with the stationary truck. The impact of the accident was so forceful that it threw the man through the windshield of his vehicle, onto the road. The cab of the Fiat Ducato, the truck he was driving, was severely deformed in the accident.
The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital. The driver of the articulated truck, a 47-year-old Czech man, was uninjured.
Before the accident, the 43-year-old man from Monheim had last stopped at the Solingen junction on the A3. The cargo of the Fiat Ducato, various packages, scattered across the entire lane after the accident.
The accident investigation team arrived at the scene on the A3 heading towards Cologne. They were securing evidence from the scene and investigating the cause of the accident. The A3 remained closed for approximately seven hours due to the investigation.
