SGA Reduces Kanon Gaming Fine to SEK 4.8m for Responsible Gambling Breaches

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) has reduced a fine imposed on Kanon Gaming, a Malta-based online casino operator. The initial penalty of SEK 7m was lowered to SEK 4.8m (€435,382) following the company's cooperation with regulators.

The fine relates to breaches in responsible gambling practices, specifically failing to meet requirements for prompt intervention when players exhibit signs of risky gaming. The affected platforms include casinoepic.se, casinogami.se, frejacasino.se, and lokecasino.se, which are now under closer monitoring.

The Administrative Court upheld both the regulator's warning and the financial sanction. A key issue was the lack of stricter safeguards for players aged 18-24, who are at higher risk of gaming-related harm. Kanon Gaming's willingness to engage with regulators and implement corrective measures led to a quicker resolution and a reduced fine. This follows a recent trend of the SGA penalising several companies, including Bigskin Trading, Gamevio Ltd, and Santeda International, for duty of care violations. Last week, the SGA also fined three gaming software suppliers for similar offenses.

The reduced fine for Kanon Gaming reflects the SGA's recognition of the company's cooperation and commitment to improving responsible gaming practices. The SGA continues to monitor and penalise companies that fail to meet duty of care requirements, with a focus on protecting younger and more vulnerable players.
