Shalamar, the iconic American band, holds a live performance in Abuja
Get ready, music lovers! The legendary R&B and funk group, Shalamar, is set to take the stage in Abuja on October 4. This historic concert, part of Nigeria's 65th Independence Day weekend celebrations, will take place at the International Conference Centre.
Shalamar, a Grammy-winning American vocal group, sold over 25 million records before the classic lineup split in the mid-80s. They are celebrated for their energetic performances and contributions to dance music, including popularising "body-popping" in the UK.
The collaboration between iCreate Africa and First Culture Ltd. has made this event possible. iCreate Africa, an Abuja-based event organiser, is working in partnership with First Culture Ltd. to bring this musical bridge between the past and present to life.
Shalamar members Howard Hewett, Carolyn Griffey, and Jeffrey Daniel have expressed their excitement about returning to Nigeria for the concert. The trio, known for their major injection of funk, have been thrilling audiences worldwide with their chart-topping classics and pulsating live performances.
Some of Shalamar's classics include "A Night to Remember", "I Can Make You Feel Good", "Friends", "Make That Move", "Sweeter As The Days Go By", "There It Is", and "I Owe You One". The group reformed in 2001 and has been performing live with a seven-piece backing band.
Jeffrey Daniel, known for his iconic dance move, 'backslide' (Moonwalk), has said the show will be "a night to remember" for all Shalamar fans and music lovers alike.
