Shark viciously dismembers human off Sydney's coastline.

In a shocking incident that has left the surfing community and locals in mourning, a 57-year-old surfer was fatally attacked by a shark at Long Reef Beach, located on the northern outskirts of Sydney. The attack, which occurred on a bright and sunny morning, has sent ripples of fear and sadness throughout the community.

The victim, an experienced surfer who was well-known and respected in the local surfing scene, sustained severe limb injuries during the attack. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the surfer did not survive, and their body was later washed up by the waves.

The species of the attacking shark remains unidentified, although it is believed to have been either a great white or tiger shark, given its estimated size of five to six meters, which is consistent with the size of these predators known in the area. Efforts to locate the shark from the air using drones and helicopters were unsuccessful.

Researchers are currently examining the bite marks on the damaged board to determine the predator's species. The attack marks a tragic addition to the growing number of shark incidents in Australia. According to the Australian Shark Incident Database, one fatal shark attack was recorded in Australia last year, and this is the third such incident in 2025.

The area where the attack occurred hosts tiger, bull, and white sharks, and scientists warn that due to climate change and ocean warming, predators are increasingly approaching coastal areas. Authorities have closed nearby beaches following the incident, and they are urging swimmers and surfers to exercise caution and stay out of the water until further notice.

The deceased surfer leaves behind a family in Sydney, who are understandably devastated by the loss. The surfing community is rallying around the family, offering support and condolences in this difficult time.

As the investigation into the attack continues, the surfing community and locals are left to grapple with the reality of the dangers that lurk just beneath the surface of the water they love so much. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and caution when enjoying the ocean, and of the delicate balance between humans and the wildlife that share our coastlines.
