Showcases the rich art heritage of Chennai through an exhibition featuring works of 37 contemporary Indian artists
In the vibrant city of Chennai, India, the "Contemporary Now" exhibition is now open for all to experience. Running till September 17, from 11 am to 7 pm at Lalit Kala Akademi on Greams Road, this exhibition offers an intimate yet expansive exploration of contemporary art.
Curated by Ashwin E Rajagopalan, the director of Ashvita's, the exhibition features 37 artists and 5 galleries: Chemould Prescott Road, Vadehra Art Gallery, Chatterjee & Lal, Experimenter, and Ashvita's. Each gallery in the exhibition boasts a strong, distinct curatorial vision, retaining its individuality while contributing to a collective vision.

Shireen Gandhy of Chemould Prescott Road is pleased with the exhibition's curation, stating that she was pleasantly surprised by its arrangement. Mortimer Chatterjee and Tara Lal of Chatterjee & Lal find it relatively easy to show the artists in the same space due to the uniform scale of the works chosen. Prateek Raja and Priyanka Raja, of Experimenter, share similar sentiments, expressing their delight in the exhibition's ability to bring together diverse artistic practices.
The exhibition is divided into six thematic strands: identity and the body, dialogues between tradition and modernity, socio-political engagement, ecology, material experimentation, and storytelling through myth and memory.
