In the heart of Germany, the software/games industry of Baden-Württemberg continues to thrive, with a turnover volume of around 16.57 billion euros and a growth of around twelve percent compared to the previous year. This success is largely due to the ongoing support and funding provided by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism Baden-Württemberg through the program, Games BW.

Launched in 2020, Games BW has been instrumental in promoting the potential of games and virtual realities for the economy and society. The program, supported and implemented by the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg (MFG) on behalf of the state, offers financial funding, training, start-up programs, networking, and mediation opportunities for the games industry under the label Games BW.

The funding plays a crucial role in strengthening the digital audiovisual sector and the production and development location of games. It contributes to a diverse and innovative creative industry, with around 150 companies employing over 1,400 people actively involved in the Baden-Württemberg games industry.

Games BW also aims to retain game developers in the region, promote the founding of new game studios, and attract game studios from within and outside the country to settle in Baden-Württemberg. This ambition was evident at the Baden-Württemberg reception and stand at Gamescom in Cologne, where nine prominent Baden-Württemberg studios showcased their latest games and developments.

For the first time, outstanding indie games from the Baden-Württemberg region were also presented at the Indie Arena Booth in the public area of Gamescom. This showcase highlighted the innovative spirit and creativity within the region's games industry.

The deadline for project applications for Games BW funding is August 31, 2025. The necessary information and application forms can be found on the MFG Website. The goal is to specifically promote the innovation capability of the games industry as a future sector.

Looking ahead, the next press release regarding the creative industry is scheduled for August 20, 2025. Until then, the focus remains on "Games & Virtual Worlds Made in Baden-Württemberg," as the region continues to make strides in the games industry, fostering a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.
