Singer Ronnie McDowell informed his onstage offspring of a suspected stroke during a live performance.
Renowned country music singer Ronnie McDowell, best known for his hits like "The King Is Gone," "Older Women," and "You're Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation," recently experienced a health scare during a performance at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Pennsylvania.
On June 21, McDowell slurred his words onstage, causing concern among the audience and his son and tour manager, who paused the performance to check on him. McDowell later revealed that he thought he was having a stroke.
Following the incident, McDowell was rushed to a nearby hospital where the stroke was confirmed. Despite the initial shock, McDowell expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he's received since the stroke.
The doctor informed McDowell that his strong heart had saved him from immediate emergency surgery. However, McDowell was told that surgery was needed to clear the blockage that caused the stroke. The surgery was successful but was complicated by a hematoma that formed, requiring additional treatment.
The hematoma was due to blood thinners McDowell was on. After a few weeks of recovery, McDowell stated that his health scare made him realize the fragility of life. He concluded that we are all "fearfully but wonderfully made."
Janelle Ash, an entertainment writer for the website Digital, has been following McDowell's recovery. However, there are no available search results specifying which specialist McDowell hired for the challenge of intracranial bleeding after his stroke in June 2021.
McDowell, after his health scare, has a new appreciation for life. He continues to recover and is looking forward to getting back on stage.
