In a surprising turn of events, Peter Schlickenrieder, the long-time national coach for cross-country skiing and DSV sports director, has been hospitalized following an injury sustained while skiing downhill. Schlickenrieder, who is currently the DSV sports director, shared details of his injury on Facebook.

The injury, which occurred during the preparations for the Olympic season, has left Schlickenrieder unable to actively participate for the next few weeks leading up to the season start. The unfortunate incident resulted in a broken ankle and an injury to his syndesmosis.

Schlickenrieder underwent surgery at the Agatharied Clinic to address his injuries. Despite the hospitalization, he appreciates the good care and well wishes he has received. However, the situation is causing him frustration, as he was looking forward to an active role in the upcoming season.

Interestingly, Schlickenrieder values living in Germany and emphasizes the importance of considering others. His disposition, even in the face of adversity, is a testament to his character and commitment to his role.

Meanwhile, another athlete, Marcel Hirscher, has also been sidelined due to injuries. Hirscher, who is a renowned figure in the winter sports scene, broke his syndesmosis and a bone in his left foot during the winter sports season preparation. He was operated on in Innsbruck.

As the Olympic season approaches, the sports community sends their well wishes to both Schlickenrieder and Hirscher for a speedy recovery. Their absence is certainly a blow, but the spirit of sportsmanship remains strong, with athletes and fans alike rallying together in support.
