Skyline or Network: A Boundless Outlook
In the vast expanse of the American West, during the era of expansion depicted by the founding fathers, a new saga unfolds. This is the setting for 'Horizon: An American Saga', a Netflix project spearheaded by actor, director, and producer Kevin Costner.
The first chapter of this three-part series finds Costner leading the cast, playing an old sergeant who guides a young lieutenant, portrayed by Sam Worthington. The lieutenant takes in a young widow and her daughter, whose families have tragically been massacred by Indians.
The story takes place in a town called Horizon, symbolising the American dream. It's a place where hope and danger coexist, as the settlers continue to flow towards the West, as the sergeant foretells.
'Horizon: An American Saga' presents a series of interconnected tales, with the fourth story featuring a captivating slow chase across many territories. A cowboy, the young woman, and the child find themselves pursued relentlessly, a pursuit that crosses state lines and borders.
The woman is hunted down and killed by her former partner's sons, but the child is left in the care of a young prostitute. A tragic turn of events, yet the cowboy steps in to protect the young woman and the child from their pursuers.
The widow and the lieutenant, who have formed a bond, find themselves entangled in this dangerous pursuit. Their relationship deepens, but the outcome for them, as well as for the cowboy, the young woman, and the child, and their pursuers, is not disclosed.
The fourth story also involves a woman attempting to kill her child's father but failing. A duel in a watering trough, one of the best ever filmed in cinema history, ensues.
Costner not only stars in the first chapter but also writes, co-stars, and produces the project. He is also involved in the production of the further parts of 'Horizon: An American Saga'. The series promises to delve deep into the complexities of the American West, exploring themes of love, loss, and the relentless pursuit of the American dream.
In addition to the main narrative, the series also introduces a genuine lazy couple and the defence of the good Indians seeking better lands. 'Horizon: An American Saga' is a testament to Costner's enduring love for the western genre and his commitment to telling compelling stories set against the backdrop of the American West.
