Small Swarm of Flying Insects Found in Drive-Through Region During Health Inspections at a Berks County Eatery, August 30, 2025
In a recent round of food inspections in Berks County, Pennsylvania, several establishments were inspected and some were found to have minor violations. Here's a summary of the findings:
Bouchette Vineyards Tasting Room passed inspection on August 21 with no violations. Located at 9684 Old Route 22, Bethel, this vineyard offers a charming setting for wine tastings and events.
Quality Shoppe, situated at 45 Constitution Blvd. Kutztown, also received a clean bill of health on August 18. This store is a popular spot for groceries and household items.
However, some establishments did have violations. Copperz Brewing Co., found at 798 S. 4th St. Hamburg, passed inspection on August 22 but had issues with raw hamburgers thawing at room temperature on the counter by the walk-in cooler, and unmarked containers of chemicals in the cook area.
Folino Estate Vineyard & Winery, located at 340 Old Route 22, Kutztown, also passed inspection but had issues with tomato sauce being held at 69 degrees F, in the cookline area, hot hold unit rather than 135 degrees F or above as required, and the interior of the ice machine was observed with black organic matter and in need of cleaning.
Zaytoon Kabob & Grill, based at 760 Woodland Rd. Wyomissing, had an accumulation of dust/dirt on the condenser fan covers in the walk-in cooler and the ceiling intake vent near the mop sink.
Pop's Malt Shoppe and Baker Bob's Bakery, both mobile food facilities, had no violations.
Winnie's Tea Bar, with locations at 725 Penn Ave. West Reading and August 19, had several issues including an empty paper towel dispenser at the handwash sink in the back area, observed dried spills in various equipment, and handwash sinks blocked by dishes.
Historic Joanna Furnace, a unique attraction at 1250 Furnace Rd. Geigertown, passed inspection but had issues with apparent rodent droppings along the walls in the kitchen and storage area.
Wendy's #19304, Popeye's Louisianna Kitchen, and Taco Bell #42146 all passed inspection but had minor issues such as improper cleaning frequencies, food debris accumulation, and non-compliant mop sink setups.
Casa Cortes LLC, Bellas Sweets LLC, and Mikura Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar all had more significant violations including improper storage of food, lack of date marking, and inaccessible handwash sinks.
Pip and Lily's Loaded Tots, Antojito's Algo Restaurant, Sunoco, Retro Fitness, and Bruno's Pizza Restaurant also had various violations ranging from improper food temperatures to rodent droppings and unclean equipment.
