Smooth Sailing: Successful German-Polish Customs Border Passage

In a significant joint operation, German and Polish customs officers confiscated a large quantity of counterfeit cigarettes in the town of Bogatynia on August 22, 2025.

The inspections, which took place in the Polish border area, led to the seizure of approximately 300,400 cigarettes of various brands. Over 90% of the cigarettes were found to be counterfeit, resulting in a tax loss of approximately 370,000 Zloty.

During the operation, customs officers observed an individual loading several boxes into his car from a garage. The individual, who was known to the customs, was found to be regularly supplying counterfeit cigarettes to markets near the border.

Heike Wilsdorf, the Press Spokesperson at the Main Customs Office Dresden, provided further details about the operation. She confirmed that all the inspected boxes contained cigarette packs and stated that the investigation is ongoing.
