Snoop Dogg's representative asserts that comments defending the rapper against accusations of inadequate LGBTQ representation are fabricated.
In the world of entertainment, discussions about representation and inclusivity continue to be at the forefront. Recently, two major events have caught the attention of many, involving Snoop Dogg and the animated film "Lightyear."
Firstly, the scene in the much-anticipated Pixar spinoff "Lightyear" included an LGBTQ relationship between Buzz's best friend and commander, Alisha Hawthorne, and her wife, Kiko. This groundbreaking representation was met with praise from many, including screenwriter Lauren Gunderson, who defended the decision to include the queer couple. Gunderson stated that such love exists in reality and it was important to reflect that in the film.
In a surprising turn of events, Snoop Dogg, who has a biopic in the works with "Outer Banks" actor Jonathan Daviss set to star as him, expressed his surprise at seeing a same-sex couple in "Lightyear." Last week, Snoop Dogg discussed his feelings on the It's Giving Podcast, stating that the scene threw him for a loop.
However, it seems that Snoop Dogg's comments about the LGBTQ representation in the 2022 animated film "Lightyear" may have been fake. His representative issued a statement on Sunday, Aug. 31, clarifying that the comments posted on Instagram were not from Snoop Dogg himself.
In a series of Instagram posts, the person claiming to be Snoop Dogg wrote, "I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons." He further explained that his grandchildren's questions about the same-sex couple in the film led him to realise that he was unprepared to answer their questions.
Lauren Gunderson, who was proud to see a happy queer couple onscreen, wrote on Instagram that she was glad to see representation that matters. She clarified that while the film features fictional elements like Zurg, lightspeed space travel, and a talking robot cat, the representation of a loving queer couple was very much rooted in reality.
As of now, it is unclear who was behind the fake comments attributed to Snoop Dogg. Regardless, the conversation about representation and inclusivity in entertainment continues to be an important one.
