Soaring high above the Baltic Sea: A journey from 4000 meters to one of Usedom's breathtaking vistas while paragliding
The Mecklenburg Fallschirmsportclub e.V., located on the picturesque island of Usedom, has been offering an exhilarating experience for adrenaline enthusiasts this summer. From July 3rd to August 3rd, a total of 360 people booked tandem jumps with the club, with enthusiastic jumpers traveling from cities like Berlin, Hamburg, and Brunswick to take part in this unique adventure.
The club, renowned for its tandem jumps over Usedom, organizes these flights in collaboration with companies such as Jochen Schweizer. Experienced tandem masters offer jumps from up to 4,000 meters altitude, providing participants with a breathtaking view of the island and the surrounding Baltic Sea.
During the free fall, jumpers experience about 50 seconds at a speed of around 200 km/h, followed by the pleasant silence and the feeling of gliding through the air like an albatross once the parachute opens. Landing next to the Heringsdorf pier is a highlight of the tandem jump experience, organized by the club for selected dates.
Marriage proposals, grandparents jumping with their grandchildren, and older people redeeming gift vouchers for jumps are examples of special moments during ascent flights. Every ascent flight over Usedom is praised as magnificent, with the ascent flight with a Cessna Caravan lasting approximately 15 minutes, offering a view of Mecklenburg that can extend as far as Hamburg, Wismar, Rostock, and sometimes even to the Brocken.
A tandem jump costs 249 euros. Participants can also book video and photo recordings to capture their unforgettable experience. Before the jump, participants fill out forms and receive an extensive briefing from their tandem pilot. Bookings via the club's own website are preferred to avoid high commissions from online portals.
As the season for tandem jumping over Usedom has now ended, the club offers this unique experience until October 25th from Neustadt-Glewe. The manager in charge of tandem jumps, Thomas Reinke, announced that next year, they will extend the offer, and the dates for July and August will be published online. Current bookings for tandem jumps are possible, preferably on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Thomas Reinke, a 60-year-old manager who oversees tandem jumps, appreciates every flight, stating each one is special. The video above provides information about what to expect from a tandem jump over Usedom. For those who missed the opportunity to book a jump this year, the anticipation for next season is already building.
