South Bank of Pfaffenteek Prohibits Glass Bottles During Dragon Boat Festival Celebration
The 32nd Dragon Boat Festival is set to take place in Schwerin from Friday to Sunday, attracting thousands of visitors around Pfaffenteich. Organizers are advising visitors to leave their cars at home and make use of public transportation, bicycles, or park-and-ride facilities due to street closures and limited parking in August-Bebel Street and Alexandrine Street for residents of the affected areas.
For the safety and convenience of all attendees, the event area on the south bank will be a glass-free zone. This measure is aimed at minimizing the risk of injuries from broken glass and enhancing the visitors' sense of security. Containers will be available at the checkpoints, and PET bottles are exempt from this regulation.
The streets around Pfaffenteich will be closed to vehicle traffic from August 21 to 24. The south bank areas between Körner Street and Arsenal Street/Wismar Street, as well as Alexandrine Street from Moritz-Wiggers Street to the south bank, will also be closed. Short walks are still a good option for reaching the Dragon Boat Festival.
During peak hours on Friday and Saturday evenings, random bag checks will be conducted at three checkpoints to prevent glass containers from being brought in. These checkpoints are located on Arsenal Street behind the stage towards Friedrich Street, at Arsenal Terraces towards Alexandrine Street, and on Mecklenburg Street, near Bolero.
The first race will start at 6 PM on Friday. The Canoe Rental Community Schwerin expects around 2500 active participants from Germany and abroad this year.
Chris Richter from the organizing team hopes that visitors will understand the new glass-free zone at the Dragon Boat Festival. He emphasizes the importance of visitors strictly following parking restrictions and keeping the access roads to Pfaffenteich open. Buses will stop at the Knaudt Street stop near the bridge instead due to street closures.
The Dragon Boat Festival remains an open event with an inviting character. The German Red Cross (DRK) Schleswig-Holstein North will be on site, conducting random checks during the peak times as part of their on-site medical and safety support activities.
With the implementation of these measures, the 32nd Dragon Boat Festival in Schwerin aims to provide a safe, enjoyable, and waste-reducing experience for all attendees. Visitors are encouraged to embrace these changes and make the most of their time at the festival.
