South Hessen police headquarters' motorway station officially unveiled
The police highway station of the police presidency of Southeast Hesse was inaugurated on a significant day in Hanau, Germany. The event marked the symbolic conclusion of the implementation of a new security concept, which has resulted in the creation of new structures at police stations in Hanau, Langenselbold, and Southeast Hesse.
The inauguration was attended by Interior Minister Roman Poseck, Southeast Hesse's police president Daniel Muth, and Mayor Claus Kaminsky. The new location is expected to improve both the traffic connection and the operational striking power of the highway police, benefiting all road users.
The station is responsible for around 330 kilometers of highways and motorway-like federal roads, including a section of the A 3, one of the most important transport axes in Germany, and the important east-west connection A 66 between Schlüchtern and Frankfurt.
With the inauguration, a community-oriented police force is now in place. The introduction of local community officers serves as permanent points of contact for citizens. A community officer is permanently deployed at the police stations in Bad Orb and Schlüchtern, and two additional community officers were established for Hanau at the beginning of the month.
The officers at the station handle a wide range of tasks annually, including recording around 2,000 accidents and searching for criminal offenders. Through targeted adjustments and additional personnel, there is now an additional radio patrol car on duty around the clock at the police stations in Gelnhausen and Schlüchtern.
The visible presence around the clock increases reactivity and builds trust. The new security architecture in Hanau and the Main-Kinzig district provides a more modern, community-oriented, and efficient police force.
The restructuring of the security architecture of the police presidency of Southeast Hesse coincides with the upcoming secession of the city of Hanau as of January 1, 2026. Police Commissioner Timo Rosenberger has been introduced as the new acting head of the South Hesse Highway Police Station, succeeding Senior Police Commissioner Christian Kreß. In August 2025, the position of head of the Southeast Hesse Highway Police Station was taken over by Chief Inspector Markus Brenner.
Press inquiries can be directed to the Police Headquarters South Hesse Press Office. The new police station is a significant step towards ensuring safety on the highways and motorways in Southeast Hesse.
