Vietnamese Swimming Team Gears Up for Southeast Asian Games 33

The Vietnamese swimming team is making a concerted effort to prepare for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 33, which will take place in Thailand in December. The team, consisting of 23 athletes, is being trained in HCM City, Đà Nẵng, and Cần Thơ.

Despite not winning any medals at the World Youth Swimming Championship, the team showed remarkable progress. The coaching staff, led by Coach Nguyễn Hoàng Vũ, has developed a detailed plan for each athlete, including training programmes both domestically and internationally, and participation in competitive events.

One of the promising young talents expected to surprise at SEA Games 33 is Nguyen Thuy Hien. Hien has won numerous gold medals in domestic and age-group competitions across Southeast Asia and Asia. At the regional age-group swimming championship in June, Hien was honoured as the best female athlete in the 16-18 age group and broke four age-group records. During the World Youth Swimming Championship, Hien finished second in the women's 200m freestyle with a time of 2:04.59.

Another athlete to watch is Nguyen Huy Hoang, who won 10 gold medals as part of the 33rd SEA Games Taekwondo event. Coach Vũ believes Hoang could become the first male swimmer from Vietnam to win gold medals in five consecutive SEA Games.

The team's preparations also include participation in the 2025 Asian Championship in India next month to evaluate their skills, gain experience, and finalise the roster. Brazilian expert Gustavo has joined the coaching staff for a long-term training programme, further enhancing the team's capabilities.

The World Youth Swimming Championship provided an opportunity for young athletes to gain valuable experience. Nguyen Kha Nhi ranked 13th in the women's 1,500m freestyle with a time of 17:13.94, while Tran Van Nguyen Quoc placed 47th in the men's 100m freestyle with a time of 51.72.

Vietnam is making efforts to train young people, invest in facilities, and invite experts from abroad to help with coaching in preparation for the SEA Games in Thailand. The team is preparing the best team for the SEA Games 33, considering it a crucial test of their strength, preparing for larger competitions like ASIAD and the Olympics.

In recent SEA Games, swimming has played a crucial role in maintaining Vietnam's position among the leaders, but the gap between countries like Thailand and Singapore remains significant. The team aims to win at least six gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games 33.

The coaching staff regularly monitors performance metrics and adjusts training plans for SEA Games 33. Coach Vũ has highlighted a talented roster of Vietnamese swimmers, including Nguyễn Huy Hoàng, Trần Hưng Nguyên, Phạm Thanh Bảo, Nguyễn Quang Thuấn, Võ Thị Mỹ Tiên, and Nguyễn Thúy Hiền.

The swimmers are determined to make Vietnam proud and close the gap between them and the leading countries in the region. With the right training and dedication, they are confident they can achieve their goals.
