Southwest Airlines Collaborates with T-Mobile for Complimentary Wi-Fi Access for All Rapid Rewards Account Holders
In a significant move to enhance the in-flight experience for travelers, several major airlines in the United States have announced plans to offer free Wi-Fi on their flights.
United Airlines, in partnership with SpaceX's Starlink, is set to install satellite Wi-Fi on the majority of its fleet. A recent test of the service on a United flight was experienced by an Upgraded Points team member, with mixed feedback overall but positive responses nonetheless.
Southwest Airlines, on the other hand, has partnered with T-Mobile. The free Wi-Fi service will be available on all Southwest flights starting October 24, 2025, and will be accessible to any Rapid Rewards account holder. Rapid Rewards membership is free and can be obtained here. Any wireless provider can be used, but a Rapid Rewards account is required to access the free Wi-Fi.
JetBlue has also joined the bandwagon, planning to install next-generation Project Kuiper Wi-Fi on its planes beginning in 2027.
Semi-private carrier JSX has been offering free Starlink Wi-Fi to its passengers for several years.
American Airlines will follow suit, bringing free Wi-Fi to AAdvantage members via a partnership with AT&T starting in 2026.
Delta Airlines continues to roll out free inflight Wi-Fi across its fleet.
This initiative is part of Southwest Airlines' ongoing commitment to elevate the cabin experience. The rollout of the free Wi-Fi service begins next month.
These developments mark a promising future for flyers, with it being expected that within a few years, they will be able to expect free Wi-Fi on the vast majority of flights within the U.S. This move is set to revolutionize the in-flight experience, allowing travelers to surf, stream, work, and more for no additional cost.
