Space Exploration Venture: Herford County teams up with experiMINT to launch a main education hub for youth
In an exciting development for the region, County Commissioner Jürgen Müller has recently signed a cooperation agreement with Dr. Agnes Heinemann, the managing director of experiMINT e.V. This agreement marks the beginning of a significant project aimed at fostering interest in the MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology) field among young people.
Since 2009, experimINT e.V. has been a pioneer in combining career and study orientation with a strong network. They have successfully created synergies between young people, schools, universities, companies, and partner organizations. The next step in this journey is the establishment of the "MINT.raum," a central learning location for young people.
The MINT.raum will be located on Ravensberger Straße in Herford. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 and will feature a workshop, a training room, and co-working possibilities. Companies can contact experimINT (www.experiMINT.de) to be part of this project.
Offers for school classes, as well as afternoon and vacation offers, are planned for the MINT.raum. Through practical projects and real-life connections, experimINT aims to make the complex MINT field and the diverse world of work tomorrow tangible and foster long-term interest among children and young people.
Educators and guardians will also be actively involved in the MINT.raum through workshops and networking events, learning how to make tech or computer science lessons more practical. This connection between educators and companies is a key aspect of the MINT.raum, as it provides a platform for businesses to present themselves to young people with minimal additional effort.
The MINT.raum is not just a standalone project. It has garnered support from various parties, including Thermomatik GmbH & Co. KG, Hettich, MIT Systemarmaturen, Remmert, Häcker Küchen, regional economic development agencies, the employment agency, the IHK Ostwestfalen to Bielefeld, the Chamber of Crafts Ostwestfalen-Lippe to Bielefeld, and the Kreishandwerkerschaft Wittekindsland.
Dr. Agnes Heinemann, CEO of experimINT, expresses hope that the project will inspire more young people to explore career opportunities in the region and reach out to more target groups. County Commissioner Jürgen Müller shares this optimism, expressing his belief in the collaboration between the public and private sectors for the MINT.raum project.
The first MINT.raum will be established in the district of Herford, serving as a central location for businesses to regularly present themselves and their work to young people. While the available search results do not explicitly list which companies have already joined to support the planned MINT.raums in Herford, it is clear that this initiative has the potential to make a significant impact on the region's future workforce.
