Spain risks exiting the EuroBasket group phase

In the ongoing EuroBasket competition, some exciting matches took place on Tuesday, with Group C and D teams battling it out for a spot in the next round.

In a thrilling encounter, Italy defeated Spain 67-63. The match saw a close fight throughout, but Italy managed to edge ahead in the final moments, thanks to Marco Spissu's six points in the final minutes. Spain's Santi Aldama led his team with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to secure a victory. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was rested due to some knee discomfort, is expected to be available for the match against Spain.

Meanwhile, Spain will have another opportunity to qualify for the next round as they face Norway on the same day. Spain currently has a 2-2 record in Group C, tied with Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. If Spain wins against Greece on the same day that Georgia plays Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain would advance.

Greece's undefeated streak in Group C came to an end as Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated them 80-77. Utah Jazz center Jusuf Nurkic and John Roberson both had 18 points for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the match.

In Group D, France faced cohosts Poland and emerged victorious with a score of 97-86. Guerschon Yabusele led the charge for France, scoring 36 points, making six of 12 three-pointers. France currently leads Group D with a 3-1 record, while Israel is close behind with a 3-1 record after a tense victory over Belgium. With four seconds left, Yam Madar sank two free throws to give Israel a 92-87 lead against Belgium.

Israel's Deni Avdija scored 23 points in a previous match against France, while Loic Schwartz hit four three-pointers among his 14 points for Belgium.

Elsewhere, Georgia kept their qualifying chances alive with a 93-61 rout of cohosts Cyprus, who remain winless. Tornike Shengelia scored 27 points for Georgia, and Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze had 21 points and 13 rebounds.

As the competition heats up, it's clear that every match counts. The knockout phase of EuroBasket will be held in Riga from September 9 to September 14. Stay tuned for more updates!
