In a recent discussion held at "La Pähd" café in Meerbusch, Jochen Ott, chairman of the SPD state parliament faction NRW, emphasized the need for housing solutions that effectively reach people in their daily lives. The conversation, moderated by Chantal Messing, chairperson of the SPD, focused on creating more space for children, youth, and their families.

Ott highlighted the significance of addressing the housing issue locally with a politics that resonates with the community. He stated that cities require financial support from the state government to achieve this. The importance of considering further infrastructure, such as food supply, was also highlighted in the discussions.

Hiring more daily helpers in kindergartens was proposed, and it was suggested that the state of NRW should financially support municipalities more strongly for this. The education system as a whole was identified as needing strengthening, and caregivers in educational institutions were seen as needing more support.

Investing early and preventively in early education was seen as an effective way to counter a later cost explosion elsewhere. The debate highlighted the importance of laying a foundation for good development in the first years of life and providing all children with a good start.

Frank Müller, spokesperson for equal opportunities in education in the state parliament, and Nicole Niederdellmann-Siemes, mayoral candidate, were also part of the discussion. Niederdellmann-Siemes presented her visions for a future-proof Meerbusch at a subsequent SPD local round in Café ONz, discussing where politics hits limits and how the cooperation between state and municipality needs to be improved.

Various solutions such as apprenticeship housing, multi-generational housing, cooperative housing, tiny houses, and a housing exchange platform were proposed during the discussion. Ott, chairman of the SPD state parliament faction NRW, stressed the role of the SPD as the party of working families, and all families were agreed to need reliable framework conditions for the compatibility of family and career locally.

The discussion saw many contributions from both young and older participants, who shared their experiences, expectations, and suggestions. Ott emphasized that many people are retreating into the private sphere due to local issues and are losing trust in politics. Determination for implementation and concreteness with first projects were emphasized for housing solutions.

Ott stated that it's a significant problem when people fall for parties that divide society with negative emotions and work against their own interests. He reiterated the need to address this development locally with a politics that reaches people in their daily lives. The importance of finding effective solutions to the housing issue and supporting families was a recurring theme throughout the discussion.
