Speech delivery at Denso Hirose Plant's grand debut

In a significant move, Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation, attended the inauguration ceremony of the reborn Denso Hirose Plant. The Hirose Plant, originally established in 1989, has been consolidated within Denso Corporation, a key company within the Toyota Group.

The Hirose Plant, known for producing electronic control devices and IC (integrated circuits), has been tasked with spearheading the Toyota Group's strategy 'Home & Away' initiative. This strategy aims to solidify group-wide efforts for survival and creating the future of mobility.

Akio Toyoda highlighted the transformation in the automobile industry due to the "CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electrification) Revolution." He explained that electronic components are no longer auxiliaries but a mainstream of car-making, a shift from previous years when they were called 'auxiliaries' in Toyota.

Two significant changes in car-making were mentioned by Akio Toyoda: 'Software-first car-making' and 'Car-making as part of the social system.' Electronic components hold a significant key in both these changes.

The consolidation of Toyota's electronic component operations to Denso took place on April 1, 2020. This strategic move is part of the close corporate relationship and cross-shareholding between Toyota Motor Corporation and Denso Corporation. Akio Toyoda, as a board member of Denso, is committed to this relationship.

The first winner of the Deming Prize, Denso, needs Denso Corporation, which takes on new challenges, in the era of profound transformation. Akio Toyoda emphasized the importance of Toyota and Denso bringing out their respective areas of strength to win on the global stage.

During his visit to the Hirose Plant, Akio Toyoda solicited candid opinions from employees about the consolidation. He also underscored the importance of Toyota and Denso developing an equal relationship.

Shoichiro Toyoda, a former President of Toyota Motor Corporation and a Member of the Board at Denso for 50 years from 1964 to 2015, set a precedent for this close relationship between the two companies. In the spirit of his legacy, Akio Toyoda is working towards a future where Toyota and Denso continue to drive innovation and lead the way in the automobile industry.
