In the quiet town of Hanau, South East Hesse, a series of shocking incidents have taken place over the past few days. A 38-year-old man from Hanau has been temporarily arrested in connection with a series of thefts and an assault.
The string of incidents began with the theft of a pickup truck, an e-bike, and an e-scooter from various locations in Hammersbach, Mittelbuchen, and Hanau. The suspect allegedly removed the front wheel of the e-bike in front of a sales room and loaded it onto the bed of the stolen pickup truck.
On Monday evening, an argument escalated in Erlensee. The incident occurred between an elderly man and a pedestrian through an open window of a residential building. The argument led to a physical altercation where the stranger allegedly injured the resident with an object during the scuffle. The stranger then attempted to attack the victim's wife when she approached.
The assailant faces charges including suspected dangerous bodily harm. The suspect initially fled upon seeing the police but was promptly arrested. The husband intervened, leading to a scuffle between the parties involved.
The search of the suspect's apartment, ordered by the Hanau Public Prosecutor's Office, revealed the stolen e-bike and a reported e-scooter. The driver of the stolen pickup truck was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution and had to provide a blood sample.
The driver is currently being investigated for suspected endangerment of road traffic. The incident occurred at the junction of Kreisstraße 200 / Fasaneriestraße, where the driver crashed a Kia off the B43a at the Hanau Klein-Auheim exit in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The theft of the e-bike was recorded by a surveillance camera at a gas station in "Am Lachbach" in Langen-Bergheim. The South East Hesse Police Headquarters is handling the investigation.
