Sphere Initiates The Wizard of Oz Activation at The Venetian, Las Vegas
Experience the magic of The Wizard of Oz like never before at Sphere in Las Vegas. This groundbreaking multi-sensory adventure transports audiences into the vibrant world of Oz, combining ultra-high-definition visuals, enhanced audio, and environmental effects to create a fully immersive experience.
The 1939 film, originally shot in 4:3, is restored and expanded using AI and presented on Sphere's massive 160,000-square-foot curved 16K screen. The screen wraps over, above, and around viewers, making the yellow brick road, poppy fields, and Emerald City envelop the audience visually.
Auditorily, the original film's songs have been remastered and re-recorded with a full orchestra, delivering crystal-clear, immersive sound through Sphere’s 167,000 speakers. Every note, including "Over the Rainbow," resonates profoundly.
But the experience doesn't stop at stunning visual and soundscapes. Haptic seats simulate movement and tactile sensations correlated to the film’s scenes, while environmental effects like layered wind, fog, leaves, and specially designed scents evoke settings such as Kansas and the world of Oz. During the tornado scene, guests physically feel the storm’s winds and atmospheric conditions.
These elements create a 4D sensory experience where sight, sound, touch, and smell work in harmony to make audience members feel as though they are part of Dorothy’s journey. The experience is suitable for all ages and designed to appeal to both longtime fans and new generations.
The activation, located in The Venetian Resort's Waterfall Atrium, is free and open to the public through the end of the year. It features life-size versions of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and Glinda the Good Witch. Visitors can pose for a photo inside Glinda's iconic pink bubble.
The Café situated behind the activation features themed décor and displays previewing merchandise for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere. Exclusive hotel packages have been designed to create new memories inspired by the classic film.
The original film's mono score has been re-recorded to take advantage of Sphere Immersive Sound's 167,000 programmable speakers. The activation aims to build anticipation for the grand opening on August 28.
