Gracenote Introduces On Sports: A Revolutionary Solution for Sports Content Discovery

Gracenote, a content data business unit of Nielsen, has launched a new solution called Gracenote On Sports. This innovative service aims to make it easier for viewers to find sports content on streaming and linear video platforms.

The fragmentation of sports content has been a challenge for many fans, especially baseball enthusiasts, as only 150 games were carried nationally during the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season, while the remaining 93% were spread across regional sports networks, local channels, streaming services, and league-developed direct-to-consumer offerings.

Gracenote On Sports addresses this issue by creating a comprehensive sports hub that aggregates live events and related content across different platforms. It enriches pregame engagement by helping fans discover upcoming live games across multiple channels and streaming platforms. Moreover, it provides tailored recommendations for live games based on preferences and viewing history.

The solution also elevates the live game experience by displaying real-time scores and league standings in the user interface. On Sports enriches postgame content by presenting related viewing options such as recap shows, highlights, and postgame analysis.

Gracenote Chief Product Officer Bill Michels stated that sports programming is valuable to video providers seeking to drive engagement and time spent with their services. He added that Gracenote On Sports is designed to help customers deliver innovative discovery experiences leveraging sports content and win the competition for viewers and their attention.

The enriched sports data can be used to power next-generation universal search capabilities and unique sports experiences. Gracenote On Sports covers more than 150 of the world's most popular sports leagues and competitions in over 50 countries globally.

Gracenote's new solution will be showcased at CES in Las Vegas from Jan. 7-9, 2025, where attendees can witness new live sports discovery experiences made possible by On Sports.
