Jagged Alliance 2, a beloved blend of tactics, strategy, and role-playing games, first made its mark in 1995. This iconic title, set in the fictional "banana republic" of Arulco, has often been compared to Fallout 2 due to its variety and unique gameplay.

The series, initially developed by Jan and Linda Curry, gained popularity for its innovative gameplay and unique combination of strategy, top-down view, turn-based action system, and role-playing game elements. The first part of the series, released in 1995, was noted for its colorful mercenaries and uncompromising combat system.

In 1999, the second part, titled "The Agony of Power", was released. It enjoyed popularity, particularly in the CIS, and boasted a similar loyal fanbase as Heroes of Might & Magic 3.

Fast forward to 2009, and a remake of the first part was released on the Nintendo DS. However, the series took a turn with Jagged Alliance: Flashback, released in 2013, which served as a prequel to Jagged Alliance 2 and a soft reboot of the series. Developed by the Danish studio Full Control, made up of fans and enthusiasts of the series, it was expected to deliver on many promises. Unfortunately, it was not completed and received negative reviews, with only 35% of players on Steam rating it positively. Outdated graphics and technical code curvature led to its anathematization after Back in Action and Flashback.

Cliffhanger Productions released only one patch after the release of Jagged Alliance: Flashback and did not address numerous bugs. This setback has led to high expectations for the upcoming Jagged Alliance 3, announced in 2021. The developer, Haemimont Games, plans to revive the series by combining the best features of the first two games, adding online co-op, and presenting a "full-fledged successor to the great series."

Though THQ Nordic is planning to make Jagged Alliance 3 a plot continuation of Jagged Alliance 2, it is silent about the releases that occurred between 1999 and 2021. The company aims to bring back the series' former greatness, which has been seriously frayed after a series of high-profile failures.

With Jagged Alliance 3, fans of the series can look forward to a return to the strategic, tactical, and role-playing gameplay that made the original titles so popular. The game promises to offer a fresh take while staying true to its roots, a combination that is sure to excite long-time fans and newcomers alike.
