Steelers edge out Jets after a dramatic 60-yard field goal victory in a game led by Aaron Rodgers
In a disappointing start to the 2025 season, the New York Jets fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a nail-biting game, ending with a score of 34-32. This was a demoralizing loss, reminiscent of past defeats under previous regimes.
Aaron Glenn, the new head coach of the Jets, made his debut in this game. Despite a valiant effort, the Jets could not secure a win, starting their season with a 0-1 record.
Zach Wilson, the former Steelers quarterback, put on a strong performance in his Jets debut. He completed 16 of 22 attempts for 218 yards and three total touchdowns. Wilson led the team to a nine-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but the Steelers managed to mount a comeback.
Breece Hall, the Jets' running back, rushed for 107 yards on 19 carries. His efforts, along with those of the team, resulted in a combined total of 182 yards on the ground. However, turnovers and a lack of discipline proved costly for the Jets.
The Steelers' offense was led by Aaron Rodgers, who threw for four touchdowns in the game. Notable scores included a 60-yard field goal by Chris Boswell, which gave the Steelers the lead with 1:03 left in regulation, and a five-yard touchdown by Jaylen Warren on the first play of the final stanza.
The Jets responded with a touchdown drive, culminating in Braelon Allen's score. This tied the game at 19-19. However, Calvin Austin of the Steelers scored an 18-yard touchdown, contributing to the 14-point swing that put the Steelers in the lead.
Coach Aaron Glenn expressed concern about the turnovers and the need for more discipline from his team. Despite the loss, Wilson kept it himself for a two-yard score on a 4th-&-goal, giving the Jets a brief nine-point lead. But the Steelers managed to score two more touchdowns before the final whistle, securing the victory.
In a twist of fate, the loss was against the Pittsburgh Steelers, led by none other than Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback the Jets decided to part ways with in March. Rodgers was reportedly happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets in this match.
On a positive note, the Jets managed to win their first game against the Steelers in 2025 under Aaron Glenn's leadership. The team will look to regroup and improve as they prepare for their next game.
