Stellantis delivers automobile components for servicing to the UK and Ireland from a newly constructed facility based in Ellesmere Port.
In a significant move to bolster its parts distribution capabilities, automotive giant Stellantis is set to open two new facilities in Van Buren Township, Michigan, and Ellesmere Port, UK.
In Michigan, Stellantis is constructing a $388m Mopar service parts megahub, scheduled to open in 2027. This state-of-the-art facility will utilise the Autostore automated storage and retrieval system, a testament to Stellantis' commitment to innovation and efficiency.
Across the pond, Stellantis has already opened a 60,000 sq.m service parts distribution centre (PDC) at Ellesmere Port, UK. This facility, which achieved certification under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (Breeam), brings distribution of parts for ten Stellantis brands across the UK and Ireland under one roof for the first time.
The PDC at Ellesmere Port, which employs 234 members of staff operating over two shifts five days per week, has a more central location than the previous one, improving transport links for distribution to the 19 regional hubs across the UK and Ireland.
The new PDC is adjacent to Stellantis' electric van manufacturing plant, reflecting the company's focus on sustainable operations. In fact, the PDC supplies Sustainera remanufactured parts, further emphasising Stellantis' commitment to environmental responsibility.
Diane Miller, the Director of the UK Parts Distribution Centre at Stellantis, oversees these operations. Miller, who previously served as plant director at Ellesmere Port and oversaw the transition of the plant to electric vehicle production, is now at the helm of the PDC.
The PDC at Ellesmere Port has also implemented an On Time in Full (Otif) system, resulting in a 60% reduction in return truck journeys since its opening. This initiative, aimed at reducing truck emissions, is part of Stellantis' broader strategy to minimise its environmental impact.
Around 4m spare parts will be delivered per year from the PDC, which holds 140,000 different part lines for vehicles up to ten years' old on 14-metre-high racking. The PDC also supplies parts for other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Distrigo's own multi-brand Eurorepar range.
In Michigan, the Mopar service parts megahub will serve as a strategic hub for Stellantis' operations in North America. The exact details of its operations are yet to be disclosed, but it's clear that Stellantis is investing heavily in its parts distribution network to support its growing fleet of vehicles.
These new facilities are a testament to Stellantis' commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and customer service, as they aim to streamline parts distribution and reduce emissions. With these new facilities, Stellantis is poised to deliver parts to its customers more efficiently than ever before.
