Streaming issues reported following Microsoft's August updates

In a recent development, Microsoft's August 2025 security updates have been causing significant issues with NDI streaming software on certain Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.

The NDI team has confirmed the bugs, stating that NDI data traffic unexpectedly drops after installing the updates. This issue is particularly noticeable with applications like OBS (Open Broadcast Software) and NDI Tools when the "Display Capture" option is enabled on the source PC.

As a workaround, NDI suggests switching the receive mode to TCP or UDP, which can be done via NDI Tools.

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and has reported further errors with patches provided through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) failing with error code 0x80240069. Emergency updates were provided a week later due to the August updates impairing Windows restore and recovery functions.

The specific updates causing the streaming problems are KB5063878 for Windows 11, version 21H2 and KB5063709 for Windows 10, versions 21H2/22H2.

Meanwhile, the streaming failures are not the only issues with the August updates. There have been reports of data corruption on SSDs and HDDs under Windows 11 version 24H2 after installing the August patches. Microsoft is asking customers to report any further issues.
