Stricken Teen Hiker in Niah National Park: Rescuers Navigate Hike, Climb, and River Journey to Reach Her
In a dramatic rescue operation yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old student was successfully saved after sustaining injuries during a hike at Bukit Kasut, Niah National Park in Miri, Malaysia.
The incident occurred approximately 7km from Batu Niah fire station, with the rescue team receiving an emergency call at 3.47pm. The victim, identified as Nur Adeline Binti Mohd Rashid, was found in a semi-conscious state at a cliff approximately 150 feet high.
The rescue team, comprising five firefighters, five SFC officers, four police personnel, and two MoH staff, embarked on a challenging mission to reach the victim. They traveled 1km by boat, 1.5km on foot, and climbed a hill before finally reaching the stranded student.
Upon finding the victim, it was discovered that she had sustained injuries to her waist and was unable to move. The rescuers promptly provided first aid and stabilised the victim before handing her over to a Ministry of Health (MoH) ambulance team at 7.10pm.
The rescue operation, led by Awang Azdwan, concluded at 7.32pm. The victim was carefully carried down on a special stretcher to the Niah riverbank and subsequently transported by boat to Pekan Niah Waterfront.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) ambulance team then took over, ensuring the student received the necessary medical attention en route to the hospital. The exact nature and severity of the student's injuries are not yet known, but updates on her condition are expected to be released in due course.
The Niah National Park, a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts, has seen its fair share of incidents in the past. However, this particular incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with outdoor activities and the importance of proper preparation and safety measures.
Our thoughts are with Nur Adeline Binti Mohd Rashid during this challenging time, and we wish her a speedy and full recovery.
