Newcastle United Sign Nick Woltemade in Club-Record Deal

Newcastle United have made a significant move in the transfer market, signing German striker Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart in a deal worth up to €90 million. This transfer fee surpasses the £63m paid for Alexander Isak three years ago, making it the club's most expensive signing to date.

Woltemade, a 23-year-old offensive player, has been on Newcastle's radar for some time, with Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen reportedly targets amid uncertainty about Isak's future. The deal for Woltemade was confirmed a day later.

The young German has proven his worth in one of Europe's top leagues, showcasing strong technical ability and being a threat in the opposition box. Since the start of last season across Europe's top five leagues, Woltemade's 9.4 touches in the opposition box are only surpassed by Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah.

Last season, Woltemade scored an impressive 17 goals in 33 games for Stuttgart. He also finished the Under-21s European Championship as top scorer, scoring 6 times for Germany. Furthermore, Woltemade averaged two or more aerial duels won, shots, and chances created from open play per 90 minutes in the 2024-25 Bundesliga, with Thomas Muller being the only other German player to do so since detailed data collection began in 2004-05.

Eddie Howe, Newcastle's manager, is optimistic about Woltemade's immediate impact at St. James' Park. He is also a great character, and the team is pleased to welcome him to the group.

However, it is yet to be confirmed whether Woltemade will be registered in time for Saturday's visit to Leeds United in the Premier League. The club has not disclosed any details about Isak's potential move to Liverpool, but it is clear that Woltemade has been signed with the intention of replacing him.

This transfer indicates Newcastle's ongoing interest in German or German-affiliated players. Malick Thiaw from AC Milan is another name linked with a move to the club, suggesting that Newcastle may pursue further transfers.

Woltemade reportedly drew interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, but Newcastle have managed to secure his signature. With this high-value signing, Newcastle United are sending a clear message that they are serious contenders in the transfer market.
