On September 7, 2025, Turkey was once again shaken by an earthquake. The epicenter of this latest quake was near the city of Sındırgı, in Balıkesir province, marking the second significant earthquake in Turkey in recent weeks.

The earthquake occurred at 12:35 local time on Sunday. According to the Kandilli Observatory, the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.9. However, no official details were provided about the epicenter, hypocenter, or assessment of the earthquake in the Sulusağıl district of Tokat where the tremors were felt.

In contrast to the previous earthquake in Balıkesir, the location of this latest quake in the Sulusağıl district of Tokat is different. The hypocenter of this earthquake was 7-8 kilometers deep. Notably, no official reports of injuries or damage have been made from the earthquake in the Sulusağıl district of Tokat.

Interestingly, the tremors from the earthquake in the Sulusağıl district of Tokat were not reported to have been felt in western districts of Istanbul. This could be a relief for the city's residents, who are still on edge following the previous earthquake.

Seismologists warn that the risk of aftershocks remains for the earthquake in the Sulusağıl district of Tokat. This warning is not unexpected, given the nature of earthquakes and their potential for subsequent seismic activity.

It is important to note that this article does not mention any connection between the earthquakes in Turkey and the earthquakes or volcanic activities in Kamchatka, Russia.

Earlier, a repeat earthquake of magnitude 4.6 had occurred in the Turkish city of Balıkesir. The Kandilli Observatory assessed this earlier quake at 5.1 on the Richter scale. Despite the lower magnitude of the recent quake in Tokat, seismologists continue to urge caution and vigilance.

As always, it is crucial to stay informed and prepared in the event of seismic activity. If you feel an earthquake, drop, cover, and hold on. If you are outside, move away from buildings, trees, and power lines. Stay safe, everyone.
