Struggles Experienced Over Three Months with the Mercedes EQS, Due to Frustrating Door Handles That Often Malfunction, Resulting in Multiple Attempts and Frequent Locks Out

The Mercedes-Benz EQS, a luxury electric vehicle, is a testament to the convergence of luxury and sustainability. With its advanced features and innovative design, the EQS is a reminder that owning a car at the bleeding edge of technology is a partnership, requiring patience and finesse to adapt to its unique features.

Noah Washington, an automotive journalist based in Atlanta, Georgia, has been covering the latest news and conducting reviews on the EQS. You can reach him on X and LinkedIn for tips and to follow his automotive coverage.

One area where the EQS demands a little patience and finesse is its flush door handles. A single click on the fob might not be enough to open the door, and a double click could cause the handles to retract, leaving the owner frustrated. An anonymous member of the "Mercedes EQS und EQS SUV Fahrer- und Interessentengruppe" Facebook group expressed frustration about the door handles three months into ownership. However, guides on fixing retracting door handle issues include resetting the handles via software, lubricating the mechanism, and updating the vehicle's firmware. Andres Mateo, an owner of the EQS 580 SUV, provided guidance on how to open the door more easily. To open a locked EQS, one should grab the handle before pulling and listen for the unlock sound. In a garage, a light swipe with the back of one's fingers is the required gesture to open an unlocked EQS.

The EQS is equipped with numerous advanced features. The updated hyperscreen boasts enhanced artificial intelligence personalization, providing a more customized driving experience. The vehicle also features an optimized battery system, increasing its range to approximately 390 miles on the EQS 450+ and allowing 80% DC fast-charging in about 30 minutes. The RWD EQS 450+ produces 355 hp and 419 lb-ft, while the AWD EQS 450 4MATIC offers 355 hp/590 lb-ft. The EQS 580 4MATIC has 536 hp/633 lb-ft.

Cabin upgrades in the EQS include sustainable wood trim, premium upholstery, and expanded ambient lighting customization options. The EQS is also equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension, rear-axle steering for tight maneuvering, and multiple drive modes, including a new energy-efficient mode. The vehicle's exterior features a refreshed black-panel grille, Digital Light LED headlamps, and a coupe-inspired roofline for improved aerodynamics and style.

In addition to its advanced features, the EQS offers up to 350 miles of range and can charge from ten to eighty percent in just over half an hour. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS will feature updated adaptive cruise control and advanced lane-keeping technology. With its combination of luxury, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology, the EQS is a standout in the electric vehicle market.
