Strung Out: Exploration of a Tethered Situation
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Fortuna and D.Live have announced the "Arena Plus" initiative, a comprehensive modernization project aimed at transforming Düsseldorf's arena into a multi-purpose hub for sports, culture, and entertainment.
The central pillar of the initiative is to provide planning security for Fortuna, ensuring the arena remains a top-tier venue for football matches. This includes the installation of a modern LED floodlight system, the modernization of the loge and business areas, and the award-winning playing field, recognised as the "Pitch of the Year" in the 2024/25 season.
Season-opening games with high-profile opponents are planned, making the arena more attractive to both local fans and visitors. To further enhance the experience, new VIP packages that combine football and concert experiences are in the works.
The "Arena Plus" initiative also includes joint projects such as the beer garden, the new LED upper tier banner, and modernized VIP areas. Events such as Christmas parties are planned, making the arena a year-round destination.
Alexander Jobst, a board member of Fortuna, expressed his excitement, stating, "When everyone pulls together, more is created than the sum of its parts. The arena pact is a strong signal."
Over 20 million euros will be invested in the modernization of the arena, with additional revenues generated through the initiative. In the first year alone, around 750,000 euros were generated.
The initiative represents a collaboration between Fortuna and D.Live, with the San Antonio Spurs ownership, specifically Spurs owner Peter Holt, playing a central role. The project was officially launched as part of agreements in 2025 and is expected to be completed by the 2032-33 NBA season start.
The "Arena Plus" initiative also benefits Düsseldorf by making it an attractive location for sports and culture. Kiosks, pedestrian bridges, and bicycle parking spaces will be expanded, making it easier for fans and visitors to access the arena.
Five new broadcasting rights have been awarded as part of the initiative, ensuring that fans around the world can enjoy the action from the modernized arena. The arena will be consistently modernized as part of the "Arena Plus" initiative, ensuring it remains at the forefront of sports and entertainment venues.
Since its launch in December 2024, the "Arena Plus" initiative has already shown noticeable effects, marking a new era for sports and entertainment in Düsseldorf.
