In the vibrant campus community of Holy Cross, the upcoming presidential election is creating a buzz of excitement and anticipation. This year, the Holy Cross Student Government Association (SGA) has taken a significant step by implementing an electoral college system in their annual elections.

Each dormitory will now have a set number of electoral votes, proportionate to its population, adding a unique twist to the SGA elections. The positions up for grabs include the Class of 2022 Commencement Chairs, Senators at Large, Class Senators, Class Councils, and the Co-Presidents of the school.

As the election season kicks off, various student organisations are playing their part in keeping the community informed and engaged. The College Democrats and College Republicans, for instance, can be followed on Instagram (@holycrossdems and @hc_gop) for updates on their events and initiatives.

The Elections Forum, a dedicated body assisting students with registering to vote, requesting absentee ballots, and staying informed about important voting dates, is at the forefront of these efforts. They are collaborating with the Democratic Futures Forum, a group working to build trust in democracy among students, to amplify their message.

President Rougeau of Holy Cross has shown his commitment to ensuring that all eligible students can register to vote and cast their ballots in the upcoming elections by signing the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge pledge. The exact individual who declared the signing of the pledge for the College of the Holy Cross, however, remains unspecified.

Apart from the Elections Forum, organisations such as the McFarland Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture, and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) are also contributing to the discourse. A notable event is the talk scheduled for September 30th in Hogan, focusing on the role that immigration will play in this year's election.

The Prior Center at Holy Cross recently hosted David E. Sanger, a White House and national security correspondent for The New York Times, for a conversation about foreign policy challenges facing the next president. Such events aim to equip students with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions.

As the 2021 Student Government Election Season unfolds, the Holy Cross community is gearing up for a lively and enlightening few weeks. The 2024 Elections Forum, a bi-weekly newsletter series, will serve as a valuable resource for those looking to stay updated on the election-related events and discussions on campus.
