Stunning Achievements and Record-Breaking Victories: Kazakhstan's Dominance in Youth Chess Tournaments
The Kazakhstan Chess Federation is celebrating a historic achievement following the success of their junior players at the World Rapid and Blitz Junior Championship held in Greece from April 13 to 17 on the island of Rhodes.
The tournament, a significant event on the world stage of junior chess, attracted 433 athletes from 49 countries. Among the competitors, Kazakhstani athletes stood out, winning a total of 14 medals, including 10 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze.
Among the golden stars of the tournament were Aliya Bissalieva, at the age of 8, who won all 22 games in both Rapid and Blitz, a result that cannot be surpassed. Her performance is the best in the history of the World Rapid and Blitz Junior Championship.
Aliya was joined by her fellow countrymen, Amirzhan Anetov (9 years old), Ergaly Suleimen (16 years old, will turn 17 on May 23), Elnazar Kaliakhmet (14 years old), and Timur Turlov's son, Daniyal Sapenov, who also won double victories in the World Rapid and Blitz Junior Championship.
Suleiman Nurakyn, ZhanSay Sholpanbek, and Daniyal Sapenov won bronze medals in the World Rapid and Blitz Junior Championship.
The Kazakhstan Chess Federation takes credit for the systematic work and faith in youth that has led to these triumphs. Over the past three years, Kazakhstani athletes have improved their performance in the World Rapid Chess Championships, with a record-breaking 10 gold medals and 4 bronzes won in 2025.
Timur Turlov, President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and CEO of Freedom Holding Corp, expressed pride in the performance of the junior players and praised their skill, character, and will to win.
