Sudden Gushes Erupting from Hydrants
In the heart of Prenzlau, the city of Uckermark, preparatory work for the road renewal of Brüßower Allee (L26) was underway when an unexpected incident occurred.
On Wednesday afternoon, 3rd September, while excavating an old hydrant in the roadbed, a water gush erupted due to the rusted bolts of the old hydrant giving way. The water flowed along Brüßower Allee towards the Siedlungsstraße intersection, causing a temporary disruption.
Local residents reported the incident, and prompt action was taken by Prenzlauer city workers. Four pumps were deployed to contain the water flow, and the water damage was repaired by the late afternoon. The drinking water supply in the residential area from Feldstraße to Sperlingslust was temporarily interrupted to facilitate the repairs.
The city workers also replaced a second old hydrant with a new one, a few meters west of the incident site, ensuring the continuity of the water supply.
The road renewal, managed by the Landesbetrieb Straßenwesen, is scheduled to commence on Monday, 8th September. The road surface of Brüßower Allee will be renewed from the entrance to the Uckermärkische Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH to the intersection "Am Igelpfuhl".
During the road renewal, the top layer of the road will be milled in several sections while traffic is flowing. Traffic will be half-closed and regulated by traffic lights to ensure safety. The milling process will take place during regular traffic hours, and the asphalt will be laid between 5 pm on 10th September and 11th September.
The road renewal is expected to last for two weeks, and the Uckermark Kurier will report on its progress. Stay tuned for updates on this major city project in Prenzlau.
