Summer box office saw a resurgence of 'Weapons' movies, marking the culmination of the season.
In the summer movie season of 2025, several films have made a significant impact at the box office. Here's a breakdown of some of the top performers and the total earnings for the season.
The blockbuster "Weapons" led the pack, generating $10.2 million during its fourth weekend in theaters. Universal's 50th rerelease of the iconic "Jaws" followed closely behind, earning $8.1 million in 3,200 North American theaters.
The much-anticipated "Caught Stealing," starring Austin Butler, was another major success, bringing in $7.8 million domestically. "Freakier Friday" also proved popular, earning $6.5 million.
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" and "The Bad Guys 2" also made impressive showings, earning $4.8 million and $4.7 million respectively. "The Roses" and "Nobody 2" rounded out the list, each earning $6.4 million and $1.8 million respectively.
The summer box office is likely to fall right below meeting last year's earnings, with estimated earnings at $3.7 billion. The top 10 films during the Labor Day weekend included "Weapons," "Jaws" re-release," "Caught Stealing," "Freakier Friday," "Nobody 2," "The Naked Gun," and "The Toxic Avenger," among others. The total gross for the 3-day Labor Day weekend was approximately $63.6 million.
However, the summer movie season has been competitive, with some casualties along the way. "Superman" generated $2.6 million during the Labor Day weekend, but failed to make a significant impact among the top earners.
Despite the ups and downs, the summer of 2025 has been an exciting time for moviegoers, with a variety of films to choose from and big earnings to show for it.
