Sungrow, a global leader in renewable energy technology, has deployed its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Living Choice retirement villages in Flagstaff Hill and Fullarton, South Australia. This marks a significant step forward in the energy transition, as the BESS dynamically responds to grid demands while continuing arbitrage and FCAS trading.

The Living Choice retirement villages have benefited from Sungrow's advanced energy management strategies, with the self-developed Energy Management System (EMS) evolving to optimize control logic for energy arbitrage, FCAS participation, and other grid management tasks. The EMS is under the constant monitoring of the Clean Energy Council's Control Systems Integration Panel (CSIP), ensuring compliance and high performance.

Sungrow serves as an Australia implementation guide for the IEEE 2030.5 protocol, CSIP-AUS, offering enhanced security, configurability, and remote command execution for distributed energy resources. This forward-thinking support for the CSIP-AUS protocol reinforces Sungrow's position as a trusted provider of innovative, compliant, and cost-effective energy storage solutions.

Joe Zhou, Country Director of Sungrow Australia, commented, "We are helping set a new benchmark for compliant, high-performance storage systems in community settings."

The Community BESS from Sungrow was first commissioned in these retirement villages in July 2025 to provide reliable energy storage solutions that enhance energy efficiency and support sustainable energy use for the retirement communities.

YES Group, a vertically integrated company delivering turnkey solutions to the energy industry, played a crucial role in the successful implementation of these projects. With over 15 years of experience, YES Group has established itself as an industry leader, offering end-to-end expertise across project development, engineering, procurement, and construction.

The projects' success was made possible through the continued collaboration between Sungrow and YES Group, a key client and strategic partner. The projects mark a first in South Australia as the first commercial and industrial (C&I) community sites to undergo CSIP-AUS testing.

FCAS is a critical ancillary service in power systems, helping maintain grid frequency stability by quickly responding to supply-demand imbalances. The deployment of Sungrow's BESS in these projects will contribute significantly to the stability of South Australia's power grid.

Sungrow's network of 520 service outlets guarantees an excellent customer experience for its clean energy projects across the globe. As of June 2025, Sungrow has installed 870 GW of power electronic converters worldwide, solidifying its position as a global leader in renewable energy technology.

YES Group is committed to driving Australia's energy transition through innovative, reliable, and scalable energy solutions. The successful commissioning of Sungrow's Community BESS projects in South Australia is a testament to this commitment and sets a precedent for future collaborations in the energy sector.

As other states in Australia prepare to roll out CSIP-AUS, these projects in South Australia serve as a model for the integration of advanced energy storage systems in community settings. The partnership between Sungrow and YES Group is helping to shape the future of energy storage in Australia.
