Support provided by outstanding Venezuelan orchestra during Coldplay's performance at Wembley Stadium
The Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, a renowned ensemble from Venezuela's pioneering music education program, El Sistema, is set to collaborate with global music sensation Coldplay for a series of unforgettable performances.
Founded in 1975 and operating under El Sistema's Orchestral Academic Programme, the orchestra consists of 180 members, many of whom began their musical journey in some of Venezuela's most challenging environments. The collaboration is a celebration of 50 years of El Sistema and promises to be a transformative musical experience.
Coldplay, known for their innovative live shows, often invite famous guests to perform with them. For this special occasion, the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra will perform orchestral parts of 'Viva la Vida', 'Fix You', and 'A Sky Full of Stars' with the band. The collaboration is not a first for the orchestra, as they have previously performed with Coldplay during the "Music of the Spheres" tour at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.
The Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall will also host a program of works that includes pieces by Bernstein and Manuel de Falla, such as the 'Symphonic Dances' from West Side Story. The collaboration between Coldplay and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra is more than just a musical event; it is a testament to the shared values of both parties. According to conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who has also been a guest conductor for Coldplay, the collaboration is intended to transform audiences through music.
Gustavo Dudamel, Music and Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, will also fill the same role at the New York Philharmonic next year. He will join Coldplay during their Wembley Stadium performances, having previously been a mentor to Bradley Cooper when the actor was learning to conduct to play Leonard Bernstein in the biopic Maestro.
Coldplay opens their world tour concerts with John Williams' E.T. theme, setting the stage for an evening filled with emotion and energy. The 'Music of the Spheres' tour is currently taking place at Wembley Stadium, with Coldplay performing for ten nights starting from August 28, 2025. After their ten performances at Wembley, the orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel will return to the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall for a night of music that promises to be unforgettable.
Jacob Collier, a multiple Grammy-winning artist, has previously been a guest on Coldplay's live shows, adding another layer of musical excitement to the collaboration. The Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra has gained international acclaim for both its performances and social mission, making this collaboration a fitting tribute to El Sistema's 50th anniversary.
