Support services for families and youth

The City Youth Office in collaboration with Landshut University has launched an internship programme designed to foster collaboration between students and professionals, aiming to continuously improve the quality of consultations and professional work in the field of child and youth welfare.

Janine Brabender, a caseworker at the City Youth Office, was present at the 4th Regional Youth Welfare Day held at Landshut University. During the event, which marked the 15th anniversary of the Bachelor's program "Social Work in Child and Youth Welfare", Brabender discussed the importance of maintaining information rights in the assistance planning process.

Brabender, who supports families and young people with (impending) disabilities, explained the legal basis and methods for transmitting information during a workshop. She emphasised that students, who participate in the six-month internship at the City Youth Office, work together with colleagues from the youth office during their tenure.

The internship provides an opportunity for students to apply their up-to-date scientific findings in a practical setting. Students bring current findings and fresh ideas to the City Youth Office, contributing significantly to the ongoing development and improvement of services provided by the office.

The participants included professionals from local institutions, educators, students, and alumni. Over 100 professionals attended the conference, which had the theme "Strengthening Protection, Involvement, and Promotion of Young People". The Federal Association of Independent Youth Welfare Institutions (Bundesverband freie Jugendhilfe) also participated and spoke about safeguarding information rights in the context of care planning.

Conducting consultations by public youth welfare professionals requires structural possibilities, such as interpreters or a pleasant conversation atmosphere, and different pedagogical methods. Brabender stressed that these aspects are essential for ensuring that families and young people have a right to consultations where they can understand the content of the conversation.

Landshut University is an important cooperation partner for the City Youth Office, with the internship at the City Youth Office being a part of the Bachelor's program "Social Work in Child and Youth Welfare". The internship is aimed at helping students gain practical experience in the field of child and youth welfare.

The internship programme is a significant step towards strengthening the services provided by the City Youth Office, ensuring that young people receive the best possible care and support.
