The bustling entertainment district of Las Vegas, the Fremont Street Experience (FSE), has taken a significant step towards improving public safety with the installation of a new AI-powered "smart safety platform." This innovative system, developed by Remark Holdings, a Vegas tech company, was unveiled in 2022.

The smart safety platform is integrated with the 300+ video cameras already monitoring the crowd underneath the FSE's giant LED canopy. These cameras, which were installed in 2020, also include the gunshot detection system, ShotPoint, developed by New Mexico tech company Databuoy. ShotPoint provides real-time gunshot alerts to law enforcement, while the smart safety platform scans crowds for signs of fire, intrusions, unattended bags, vandalism, graffiti, fights, and loitering.

The activation of these cameras was announced in a city press release in 2022. In January 2025, the city activated an additional 22 surveillance cameras along streets intersecting the FSE. These cameras are designed to scan for the license plates of stolen or wanted vehicles and are part of the ongoing effort to ensure public safety.

It's worth noting that neither the smart safety platform nor the gunshot detection system employs facial recognition software. The city claims that the cameras cannot be used by police to monitor or punish traffic infractions.

The FSE, a popular tourist destination that draws millions of people annually, has been the focus of this technological upgrade. The cameras are strategically placed to cover the entertainment district, ensuring a safer environment for visitors and locals alike.

This development is part of Corey Levitan's analysis on Commercial Gaming, Entertainment, and Expert Insight in Las Vegas. The cameras will be in use during the New Year's Eve celebration and beyond, marking a new era of safety and security for the iconic Fremont Street Experience.
